Bari airport

Bari airport is located in Bari, a city of Italy. It is also known as Palse airport and it is 8 km from the town center. A new passenger terminal was opened in year 2005-2006. It provides the facilities to the passengers as it is equipped with multi storey car park, 4 loading bridges and new control tower. The airport has capability of handling 2,825,456 passengers, every year. In 1930, Regia Aeronautica built this air port. In late September 1943, the airport was seized by the British eighth army during the World War 2 Italian campaign. Later on, by the end of war, Air force of the south or Italian co-Belligerent Air force used the air field.

Regular flights to various countries like Catania, Rome, Palermo, Venice and ancona, was started in 1960’s. Also, the airport was used for civil flights as well. Foker F27 was used by ATA to take the routes. It became essential to construct new run ways when ATA was put into operation. For passenger terminal military complex was used. It was intended to build new cargo terminal in 1981, but it afterward turned into new passenger terminal at the airport. The airport was upgraded with the football world cup in 1990, with the extension of run way and new terminals. Beside this, infrastructure for flights was also upgraded, at the same time. Terminal started operation and was used by passenger in 2005.

Many projects were started to facilitate passenger such as construction of new runway was started in 2006. Similarly, in 2005 construction work for new tower was initiated and in 2007 implementation of passenger terminal was planned. Due to the installation of ATR 42 fuel quantity indicator in the ATR 72, engine fuel starvation of tuninter flight 1153 happened on 6 August 2005, which resulted in the death of 16 people out of 39.
